Le Carré Grand Cru 2018

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru AOC

Robert Parker: "Le Carre is from the JCP Maltus portfolio of skillfully crafted Saint-Émilion wines. Neil White is the head winemaker, and Thomas Duclos is a consultant here. The 2018 Le Carre is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc—this vineyard land was purchased from Canon around 2000 and touches Clos Fourtet. Deep purple-black in color, it comes bursting out of the glass with flamboyant black cherry compote, blueberry pie and plum preserves notes with touches of Chinese five spice, underbrush and truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and framed by firm, ripe, rounded tannins, the exotic spices inject wonderful lift to the long, opulent finish." (93-95+)

Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from a parcel near Clos Fourtet, the 2018 Le Carré (which means “square” in English) is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up 80% new French. Its purple color is followed by a killer bouquet of cassis and blackcurrants balanced by a terrific sense of minerality and salinity. Full-bodied, deep, layered, and pure, it's the finest vintage to date and is well worth seeking out." (94-96)
