Le Carré Grand Cru 2019

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru AOC

Antonio Galloni: "The 2019 Le Carré is a powerful, virile wine. Swaths of tannin enshroud a core of dark ruit, while smoke, tobacco, game, iron and black fruits give the 2019 a distinctly wild, feral quality that is impossible to miss. The 2019 finishes with real drive and tons of pure intensity. The Cabernet Franc is decidedly vivid. The 2019 will likely need a few years in bottle to be at its best, but it sure is impressive today. Jonathan Maltus' 2019s are superb across the board. I imagine many readers will be drawn to the micro-cuvées, Le Carré, Le Dôme and Les Astéries, in particular, and right so. In my view, though the most impressive wine in the lineup is Teyssier because of its quality at a production level that is very hard to achieve. The growing season was hot, as it was everywhere, with rain episodes in July, August and September that helped balance things out. Frost was an issue in some of the lower-lying parcels that typically inform Teyssier and Laforge. More importantly, the decision to give the wines a bit more energy while retaining all of the richness readers have come to expect yields a range of wines that really stand out in 2019." (94-96)

James Suckling: "Chewy and layered with lots of ripe-fruit character, as well as ripe tannins. It’s full-bodied, yet balanced and not overpowering. Persistent finish. Graphite at the end. Could be up with the 2015." (94-95)
